General Manager Metssa (Repair & Maintenance)
Lead Metssa, TCR Group's Spanish JV, as General Manager in Madrid. Drive operations across 10+ workshops & 135 technicians. Seeking a bilingual (ES/EN) leader with 5–8 yrs in engineering/maintenance.
The Opportunity
TCR Group, the global leader in Airport Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Services, is looking for a General Manager to lead Metssa, our repair and maintenance joint venture with Groundforce in Spain. This is an operational leadership role with full responsibility for a network of 10+ workshops and around 135 technicians across the country.
You will report to the Regional Director Spain, Portugal & Italy and be based in Madrid. Metssa is purely focused on repair and maintenance, it does not cover leasing or rental activity. You will take over the day to day management of the workshops, the technicians and the relationship with Metssa's customers, freeing up the Regional Director to focus on the broader business in the region.
A snapshot of what you will be doing here:
• Lead the workshop network: Take full ownership of day to day operations across all workshops, including station managers, supervisors, warehouse keepers and administrative teams.
• Build team stability: Put in place the training, onboarding and retention approach that keeps a growing technician workforce engaged and performing at its best.
• Manage people and unions: Be the primary point of contact for employees across all sites, including union representatives in Madrid, our largest and most established workshop.
• Standardise operations: Bring more consistency to how workshops operate, in procedures, timing and quality, building on the shared SAP environment already in place across all sites.
• Drive safety and purchasing at workshop level: Raise safety performance and culture to the next level, working closely with TCR's newly built central purchasing department.
• Manage the customer relationship: Be the face of Metssa for customers, including the weekly operational meeting, and handle SLA discussions, service quality and complaints.
Key outcomes & success factors:
• Retention: Strong retention and low turnover, sustaining the growth from 80 to 135 technicians achieved over the past two years.
• Union and employee relations: A constructive relationship with the workforce and unions in Madrid, and strong engagement across all other sites.
• Standardisation: Consistent procedures and performance across all workshops.
• Safety: Measurable improvement in safety performance and culture.
• Customer satisfaction: Strong, trust based relationships with customers, with SLAs met and issues resolved quickly.
We are looking for an individual who:
• Has a technical or engineering background, ideally with workshop or maintenance experience.
• Brings around 5 to 8 years of relevant experience, for example as an engineer in an industrial, automotive or technical maintenance environment. Experience in the GSE or aviation sector is a plus, not a requirement.
• Has the energy and ambition of someone building a career, combined with enough maturity and credibility to manage experienced, technical teams.
• Has experience managing or working closely with unions and employee representative bodies, or is ready to take this on.
• Is a natural people manager, equally comfortable on the workshop floor and in front of customers and stakeholders.
• Has an analytical, structured and pragmatic mindset, with the ability to standardise processes across multiple sites.
• Communicates fluently in Spanish and English.
• Does not need deep expertise in the leasing or rental business model. This role is about repair, maintenance and people, not financial negotiation.
Why you'll love working with us:
• Take full ownership of a standalone operation within a global market leader.
• Work closely with an experienced Regional Director and TCR's central functions.
• Shape the team and processes of an organisation that has nearly doubled in size.
• Be part of a global network of leaders with shared values and goals.
• Develop your leadership in a company backed by a stable private equity shareholder.
