Senior Financial Accountant
The opportunity
We are looking for a technically strong and commercially aware Senior Financial Accountant to join our UK & Ireland Finance team. Reporting to the Financial Controller, this is a pivotal role responsible for statutory reporting, audit management, VAT compliance, financial governance, and external reporting across multiple legal entities within the business.
Working closely with Group Finance, senior stakeholders, auditors, and regulatory bodies, you will play a critical role in ensuring the business maintains the highest standards of financial governance, compliance, and reporting accuracy. You will be the key point of contact for external auditors, HMRC, Revenue, and Group Finance, ensuring all statutory, tax, audit, and regulatory obligations are delivered accurately and on time.

Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm (40 hours per week)
Hybrid working available.
Occasional travel to other UK & Ireland locations may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Statutory Reporting & Audit Management
Lead the preparation and delivery of annual statutory financial statements for UK entities.
Ensure compliance with FRS 102, Companies Act requirements, and Group accounting policies.
Prepare technical accounting papers and support complex accounting transactions.
Act as the primary liaison between auditors, Group Finance, and local management.
Coordinate audit requests, schedules, and supporting documentation.
Monitor audit progress and ensure timely resolution of audit queries.
Drive continuous improvements in audit readiness, controls, and reporting quality.
Ensure audit findings and recommendations are implemented and tracked effectively.
VAT, Customs & Tax Compliance
Own VAT returns and VAT compliance activities across the Group, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
Manage HMRC correspondence, enquiries, and compliance reviews relating to VAT.
Oversee Postponed Import VAT Accounting (PIVA), C79 processes, and reconciliations.
Support the preparation of Corporation Tax packs and other tax compliance requirements.
Manage PSA (PAYE Settlement Agreement) calculations, submissions, and compliance obligations.
Regulatory & External Reporting
Prepare and submit Office for National Statistics (ONS) returns.
Manage Prompt Payment Reporting and Payment Practices Reporting obligations.
Support ESG, sustainability, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
Deliver ad-hoc government, regulatory, and industry finance reporting requests.
Financial Governance & Control
Own supplier and customer master data governance processes.
Review, validate, and approve vendor creation requests within SAP.
Conduct regular reviews of supplier master data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Own the monthly intercompany reconciliation process across UK & Ireland entities.
Prepare consolidated cash flow reporting and forecasts, providing insightful variance analysis and commentary.
Act as the primary finance contact for treasury-related matters.
Governance, Policies & ComplianceLead local implementation of Group Finance policies, procedures, controls, and technical accounting requirements.
Translate Group policy updates into practical local processes and working instructions.
Support internal audits, compliance reviews, and remediation activities.
Promote a culture of strong financial governance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Monitor compliance with Group accounting policies and Delegation of Authority requirements.
Ensure internal control frameworks are adhered to consistently across the business.
What We Are Looking For
Skills & ExperienceProven experience managing external audits and delivering year-end reporting.
Strong statutory reporting and financial accounting experience.
Experience with VAT compliance, tax reporting, and financial governance.
Strong understanding of UK GAAP (FRS 102) and Companies Act requirements.
Experience managing multiple legal entities within an international environment.
Strong balance sheet reconciliation and financial control experience.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Experience using ERP systems, preferably SAP.
Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
High attention to detail with a passion for financial accuracy and compliance.
Experience working within a fast-paced operational or service-led organisation.
QualificationsACA, ACCA, or equivalent qualified (essential).
Minimum five years' post-qualification experience within a fast-paced operational environment.
